Weekly Update  November 12th, 2019

7th Grade  Weekly Update

November 12th, 2019

Happy Monday!

Two weeks left in the Trimester and until Thanksgiving break! It’s almost showcase project crunch time and we’re working hard to make sure no one is missing work before the end of the trimester. Thanks to all the parents who have dropped off early, picked up late, or even brought their kids on this past Saturday to show your support for their education. Saturday school was a success and we plan to host most throughout the year as needed. It all adds up as they learn to be responsible and develop their intrinsic motivations.

Yours in partnership,

Team 7

Next DC Payment Due

As we get closer to our DC trip, more deposits are due.  Please get your next $100 payment turned in no later than December 1.  If you want to pay the amount in full, the remaining balance is $250. Please write checks to Exploris.  If you need additional information, please reach out to Leah lperry@exploris.org.

Trimester 1 Showcase: Nov. 19th 1:30-2:20pm

Come one come all! Students have been working on science fair style experiments that they will display for attendees at showcase. This is a time for them to show off what they have learned this Trimester specifically around the Human Body Systems and the Scientific Method.

Food Drive! We need food by this Friday Nov. 15!!

Seventh grade students helping senior citizens at Glenwood Towers are collecting food for the residents to get them through the week of Thanksgiving. The over 300 residents usually have meals delivered through Meals on Wheels, but the Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving week, there will be no food delivered. With your help, we are collecting food to give to the residents to help make their Thanksgiving bright and cheery. We’ll need a lot of people to give to make this happen!

To get this done, we are asking that certain grades focus on buying certain foods.

K and 1st grade:  please bring in canned meat, or cooked meat pouches

2nd grade: fruit cups, or dried fruit

3rd grade:  chewy granola bars

4th grade: mini cakes (like little debbie), or other similar sweet treats

5th grade:  individual bags of oatmeal

6th grade:  canned goods:  veggies & soup mixes (pop tops, preferably not ones where a can opener is needed)

7th grade:  cracker packs/ individually packaged salty snacks (Please send in ASAP)

8th grade: boxed goods: ramen or mac or cheese individuals, mashed potatoes

The majority of these residents live alone, so servings for individuals would be ideal. There will be boxes placed throughout the school. The deadline for this project is November 15, 2019, so that we can deliver food to the residents well before the holiday. Please encourage your child to participate in this drive. If you have any questions, please email Mary at mmcway@exploris.org. Thank you!

Our goal is to provide a fun, safe environment for learning and enjoying the sport of ultimate. We especially welcome newcomers.

The coaches and parent volunteers have high expectations that students uphold Exploris values when participating in this club activity. Parents should review behavior expectations with their players:

  • Students are to treat volunteers and fellow students with respect at all times.
  • Players are responsible for walking safely as a group to practice: no parkour, respect property, no phones, watch for traffic, and cross only at cross walks.
  • Disrespectful or unsafe behavior will result in the player being checked into after school care ($) and a parent will be notified.
  • Repeat offenders will be asked to leave the team.
